Piper Kerman was an average Smith College graduate- smart, middle-class, and looking for a little adventure after graduation. Her adventure comes in the form of an unfortunate relationship, which takes her to exotic places under dangerous circumstances. Once she decides she’s no longer interested in this risky life, she turns herself around and moves forward, putting her sketchy past behind her. Ten years later federal agents knock on her door and her life is forever changed.
Kerman’s memoir, Orange is the new black, describes her one-year sentence to Danbury, a federal women’s prison. Most importantly, this book details the relationships Kerman fosters while in lock-up. Come hear Piper Kerman talk about her memoir and her experience at the Wortmann Ballroom tonight at 7pm.
