April is National Poetry Month, and Roanoke College is starting the month off with two great events for all the poetry lovers out there. This is what’s going on this week at Roanoke College:
On Thursday, April 3 at 7:00 pm, Sidney Wade will be reading from her poetry collection “Straits & Narrows” at Monterey Hall. Wade is the author of six collections of poetry, including “Istanbul’dan/From Istanbul” (1998), published in both Turkish and English. Her poems and translation works have been published in various journals, including The New Yorker, Paris Review and The New Republic.
On Saturday, April 5 at 1 pm The Living Poets Society will be hosting their 2nd Annual Spring Litpalooza at Fintel Library on the first floor. The literary festival will feature many of our talented Undergraduate Creative Writing majors and minors. Fintel Library’s Systems Librarian, Dave Wiseman, is the Featured Reader this year. Refreshments will be served.
What’s your favorite poem? This is one of mine:
let it go – the
smashed word broken
open vow or
the oath cracked length
wise – let it go it
was sworn to
go
let them go – the
truthful liars and
the false fair friends
and the boths and
neithers – you must let them go they
were born
to go
let all go – the
big small middling
tall bigger really
the biggest and all
things – let all go
dear
so comes love
